Environmental Stewardship Case Study:
Water Stewardship Month
Hundreds of employees across Molson Coors increased our positive Beer Print during September 2011’s “Water Stewardship Month” by donating their time to local water clean-ups and learning how without great water, we can’t make great beer.
In Canada, the Molson Canadian Red Leaf Project hosted 15 Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup activities with almost 400 employees collecting garbage, beautifying and preserving Canada’s shorelines. In the UK, almost 200 employees got wet by preserving British Waterways, planting wetland native species in Burton, and learning why water matters through local education sessions. In the US, dozens of employees helped protect and clean both mountain and city water sources.
In addition to giving time, 500 Molson Coors employees, friends, family and others pledged online to save over 3.4 million liters of water after learning about their own home water use on www.everydropeveryripple.com.
Although September was the designated “Water Stewardship Month,” water remains a year-round focus for Molson Coors with ongoing outreach, partnerships, sponsorships, volunteer events and, most importantly, a global goal to reduce our company’s water use by 15% by the end of 2012.
Employees earned “drops” for every “Waters Stewardship Month” activity they completed and the company matched $1 for every drop. Canada, the UK and US/International employees collected almost 1,000 drops each. CAN$1,000 donation will be made to WWF Canada’s Living Rivers program, £1,000 donation to UK’s WaterAid organization and US$1,000 donation to Water For People.
